This chess piece is a handmade replica based on one of the knights found as part of the famous set now in the collection of the British Museum. The Lewis Chessmen were discovered in the vicinity of Uig on the Isle of Lewis, but were probably made in Norway around 1150-1200 AD. Although very few details of the origins of the Chessmen are known, it is possible that they belonged to a travelling merchant and were buried for safekeeping.

Crafted from plaster, and then hand aged to look like solid stone, this fine piece exhibits all the details of the knight, horse and shield. The originals are small; ours is a larger statuette, perfect for a shelf or desk.
